Christmas Baubles - Barielle Elle's Spell, Sinful Colors Rags To Riches

Merry Christmas, y'all! Happy Hanukkah! Happy holidays and happy no work day! :D

Now for an unsubtle Christmas themed mani!

Red and green, it's as Christmassy as it gets, right?

The base is Barielle Elle's Spell, a deep red jelly with gold-green flakies. Gorgeous nail polish, I just love a good jelly-ish red. The green glitter is Sinful Colors Rags To Riches. Rags To Riches has green microglitter with hex-shaped and diamond-shaped holo teal glitter. It's a gorgeous glitter which I almost bought twice!

I used my index finger as the accent nail this time and I mainly just wanted to see how Rags To Riches would look if I was attempting a full coverage, since I haven't tried this nail polish before. It's definitely a layering glitter, not something to wear on its own.

Confetti Party - Coco Allure Cleopinktra, Coco Allure Bootiful, Barielle Falling Star

Ev and I don't often coordinate what we're posting each week, and once in a long while, we end up posting about the same nail polishes. This week turned out to be one such example, but I've decided to carry on!

Barielle Falling Star is this gorgeous blue polish with orange/bronze glitter. I love it, and it makes a gorgeous base for these glitter toppers. Here's a swatch of Falling Star.

Ev has described these two polishes already on Monday. I'll be lazy and quote her spot on description from here: Bootiful is a mix of black, orange and purple glitter in two sizes each of hexes and squares. - Cleopinktra is a mix of gold and magenta hex and square glitter in different sizes.

To be honest, I've found Bootiful doesn't make for a great topper. The consistency is fine and there's glitter aplenty. I think the problem is there's too much big black glitter in the polish and the glitter are all too similar in size. It could just be my personal taste.

But I love Cleopinktra. The variety of square and hex glitter is perfect, and the pink/magenta and gold combo is gorgeous. Layering Cleopinktra over Bootiful is magnificent, in my opinion. The combination just really works together! That both Ev and I did it without consulting each other shows that we individually thought it was a winning combo. :)

The last photo was taken in natural light, with my nails falling in the shadow a little. The glitter look almost like they're glowing here.

Gaudy Opal - Barielle Elle's Spell, Finger Paints Flecked

Ah, I love flakies, don't you! I've been wearing holos for the past few weeks (months??) but I pulled out an old photoset and fell for flakies all over again~ =)

In the spirit of flakie overload, here's a flake polish topcoated with a flakie topper! Yeaaaahhhh~

[Bottle: Barielle Elle's Spell]

The base was Barielle Elle's Spell, a gorgeous red jelly chockers with gold-to-green duochrome flakies. Jme has posted a great comparison showing a bunch of different red-jellies-with-flakies here, so check it out!

[Bottle: Finger Paints Flecked]

Elle's Spell was a bit thick and doesn't dry that quickly but was opaque in two coats. I then put a layer of Finger Paints Flecked, a blue-to-green flakie topper over my red base.

Here's the result under diffuse lighting.... Flakie goodness, aaahhh~! It just makes me wanna dig out all my flakies and play around with themmm...

Blorange Bliss - Barielle Falling Star

 "Maybe orange and blue is not the best. But you know, sometimes there's other things you wouldn't think would be a good combination, end up turning out to be like a perfect combination.You know, like two people together. Who nobody thought would be together. Ever."

So, I thought this quote was hilariously appropriate for the mani I've got for you today. Like two people nobody thought would be together (ever), here's blue and orange in an absolutely winning combination.

[Bottle to nail: Barielle Falling Star (3 coats)]

This is Barielle Falling Star - a slightly dusty medium blue creme/jelly with orange glitter. Now, I don't really subscribe to the whole X must never be seen with Y, and this is a stunning example of non-conventional colour mixes. Note that the blue is dustier in real life than my photos make it out to be.

The formula was alright. It could've been better in my opinion as the first coat was fairly streaky. I think you can get away with two but I used three for mine.

What this polish absolutely excels in though, is the orange glitter. A good proportion somehow remains at the surface instead of sinking into the blue and getting muddied up. You do get some slightly submerged particles but because the majority remains on the surface, that gives it depth instead!

Definitely a unique polish and one I'll keep in my collection!

Where being flakey is good - Barielle Elle's Spell, Nfu Oh 59, Hits Speciallita Flamenco

I'm not quite sure how I ended up with three red nail polishes with flakies, but I might as well compare them!

Barielle Elle's Spell is a warmer deep red, with gold-green duochrome flakies. It's a more opaque shade, and as such, the flakies don't come through as much. But I do like the colour best. Nfu Oh 59 is a colder red jelly with gold-green duochrome flakies, and needs one more coat than Elle's Spell to become completely opaque. But this means its flakes are more obvious. Hits Flamenco is a bright chilli red with gold-green flakies...though the flakies don't change colour much from gold when on the nails.

To be honest, if you have either Elle's Spell or Nfu 59, I don't think you need to get the other. They aren't identical, but they're close enough. Hits Flamenco is an altogether different animal, since it's so much brighter than the other two shades.

If you look at the bottles, you can see that Nfu 59's flakies do shine a little bit more green than Elle's Spell. I do think it's the opacity of the base.

Even after writing this up...I kinda want more flakies. :P
