Petals Adrift - Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly, LA Girl Sprinkle

I really like these two polishes so I combined them to get this effect.

The base is Nail Pattern Boldness' I Believe I Can Fly:

I love this polish because it's so simple but it still pops. I Believe I Can Fly has the perfect balance of jelly deep blue base, a tonne of square blue glitter and a scattering of red microglitter.

Then I topped it with LA Girl Sprinkle from the Splatter collection:

Sprinkle has matte white and medium pink hex glitter in a clear base. It's not the most densely packed glitter topper but that makes it perfect for combining it with other glitter polish. I like how the colour and glitter combination turned out here.

Starting With A Purple Bang - Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly, Color Club Harp On It, Femme Fatale Sinister Calling & Party Grenade

Happy New Year! :D I hope you guys had a good New Year's Eve!

I decided to usher in the new year with my favourite colour. Purple!

I started with the base, which comprises of many layers of nail polish to achieve the psychedelic purple frenzy below.

I started with Femme Fatale's Sinister Calling, a polish that has an amazing mix of purple, blue, black and silver holo glitter. The glitter comes in hex, shards, stars and bar glitter! As if as that wasn't wild enough, I added a coat of Nail Pattern Boldness' I Believe I Can Fly, which has gorgeous metallic blue square glitter in a navy blue jelly base. And then to complete the party attire, I put on Femme Fatale's Party Grenade. As the name would suggest, Party Grenade has a mix of multicoloured hex, square and diamond glitter in a clear base.

All in all, I think the end result came out looking rather nice.

But I wanted to add a little something extra for the New Year.

Using striping tape, I blocked off a 'frame' on each nail and painted strips using Color Club's Harp On It, a silver linear holo. I think it turned out looking rather neat.

I think the mani suits my thumbnail the best because my thumbnail is wider

Jazzed Up - LA Girl, Nail Pattern Boldness, Amy's Nail Boutique, Femme Fatale Cosmetics

My main computer is in the shop at the moment, so I'm a bit short on photos... I do have them all backed up but the files are a bit of a mess so I'm going to go with some cheap cheerful skittles for today!

Here are some layering experiments I've done... I'll try my best to remember what polishes I used!

From left to right (all over a plain black creme):
[1] LA Girl Celebrate, a mix of large and small hexes in blue, red and white.
[2] LA Girl Incognito, a mix of finer blue hex glitter with scattered large silver hexes.
[3] LA Girl Animate (red small and large hexes) over Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard (matte blue and yellow glitter). What was I thinking??
[4] Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly, silver and pale blue square glitter and smaller red and purple glitter in a deep blue jelly base.

From left to right (again over a plain black creme):
[1] Amy's Nail Boutique Roxy (purple and pink matte glitter) and Cotton Candy (blue and pink matte glitter).
[2] Femme Fatale Incendius, complex mix of orange, gold and deep blue glitter.
[3] Femme Fatale Eventide, complex mix of gold, pink and green glitter.
[4] Noooo idea?? Maybe Amy's Nail Boutique Cotton Candy again???

I've got a whole bunch of glitter skittles from layering experiments that I haven't posted before. So maybe I'll do this over the next few weeks or whenever my laptop decides to return from the tech gods... we'll see! In the meantime, enjoy the sparkles!

Keeping Warm - Sally Hansen Fuzz-Sea, Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard

I thought I would swatch Sally Hansen's Fuzz-Sea from the Fuzzy Coat collection next to Nail Pattern Boldness's Flipping Out Hard to see if they were different glitter types in the same colours. Both had yellow and blue, I thought there would be some colour similarities right? Flipping Out Hard is actually brighter, with more yellow in comparison. They're both really pretty in different ways!

Fuzz-Sea has a pretty even distribution of yellow and blue matte bar glitter. With three coats, it gives pretty good coverage. Isn't Fuzz-Sea an adorable name to go with an adorable nail polish. :)

Neon Schnapple - Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard, OPI, Australis

After testing out OPI Who The Shrek Are You and Australis Limited Edition 2 (in Monday's post), here's what I layered over it!

When I did this manicure, I was in the mood for brights! To counter this coooollllldddd weather! So I grabbed Flipping Out Hard from Nail Pattern Boldness to layer over the top!

[Base (2 coats): OPI WTSAY (middle and pinky), Australis Limited Edition 2 (index and ring);
Glitter: Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard (1 coat)]

Flipping Out Hard is a combination of neon yellow and blue (matte?) glitter. This is just one coat! You can also build it up to full opacity in 2-3 coats. This is the same colour combination as Nailventurous' Floam, just in different ratios of glitter colours. Jamie has posted an excellent gradient manicure using both Flipping Out Hard and Floam in this post here!

[Base (2 coats): OPI WTSAY (middle and pinky), Australis Limited Edition 2 (index and ring);
Glitter: Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard (1 coat)]

This dries pretty gritty though, so slap on the top coat for a shiny perfect finish! You can still vaguely pick out differences in base shade between OPI WTSAY (middle and pinky) and Australis Limited Edition 2 (index and ring). The addition of yellow glitter over the top of the green polishes really make them pull a lot yellower than before!

Digital Space - Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly

We have posted photos of Nail Pattern Boldness nail polish before, but here's one I don't think we have reviewed yet.

2 coats of Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly over peach nail polish

Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly is a squishy dark blue jelly with silver square glitter and red microglitter. The silver glitter always look like flashy blue-silver because of the dark blue base. I quite love this nail polish! It looks like digital abstract art for some reason and that random bits of red in it just adds to its flavour.

The base of the nail polish will usually come through one coat of I Believe I Can Fly, but in this case, I used a peach coloured base and I Believe I Can Fly was dark enough that it gave the mani a navy blue base colour, and without any visible nail line.

This nail polish is smooth and easy to apply, no need to fish out any glitter.

Looking at pictures of it... I like it just as much this time round!

Snowy Sorrow - Halloween Challenge #9: Graveyards

Today's Halloween Challenge theme is Graveyards....!!

This seems a bit uninspired but I was running out of ideas! =( My other idea was stone angels with black on grey but I was in a rush (again!) and ditched it...

[Bottle to nail: NYX Girls Complex Purple (2 coats)]

I started with a base of NYX Girls in Complex Purple, which is a rich purple shimmer. This is two coats and not completely opaque because I was going to paint over it anyway.

Two coats might be okay if you're careful, but probably three is best with this one?? I don't quite remember, but I think that was the case.

I then used the blue jelly base from Nail Pattern Boldness I Believe I Can Fly, wiping off the glitter and dabbing the deep blue base on to make the cloudy night sky. Over that, I used my usual black creme LA Girl Blackout to paint in the ground, headstones and bats.

I thought it might be interesting to have a snowy effect on so I carefully dabbed a thin layer of Femme Fatale Cosmetics in Shimmering Snowcap over the top. I don't think it quite worked like I expected but maybe I'll try out this white-glitter-as-snow idea again sometime!

Bright Seas - Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard, Nail-Venturous Floam

I did this as the Halloween gradient challenge as well, but I thought yesterday's green and orange manicure was more fitting, so I'm posting this one today instead.

As mentioned yesterday, Nail Pattern Boldness provides full coverage in two coats, so I didn't actually need to use Essence Viva La Green as a base coat. I used Nail-Venturous Floam to build up a darker green gradient towards the tips. As it was rather dense in glitter as well, it was difficult to make the gradient as gradual, but I tried by using very thin coats.

The last two photos are indoor pictures. Taking photos of my nails with thumb included feels awkward to me, so you don't see my thumb often. Relish this rare moment! :P

Flipping Out Hard and Floam actually consist of the same colours. Flipping Out Hard has more yellow glitter, so it looks like a bright neon green, while Floam has more mid-blue glitter, so it looks like a sea-foam green. They are both incredibly dense, and can provide full coverage in two to three coats on their own. I think Floam is more top coat thirsty than Flipping Out Hard.

If you have one and are wondering if you should get the other, I recommend that you do. They're both very pretty and different enough that there's definitely room for both. :)

An October Sprinkle - Halloween Challenge #7: Gradient

Gradient! My favourite and easiest manicure style to attempt, so this challenge was a good one for me.

I used Essence Viva La Green as my base coat, but I don't think it was actually needed. Nail Pattern Boldness Flipping Out Hard is so dense that it provided almost full coverage with the first coat. After two coats of Flipping Out Hard, I used very thin coats of Amy's Nail Boutique Pink Lemonade to build up the gradient towards the tips. Pink Lemonade is far less dense in glitter, so it took a lot of coats to get the above look, but it also makes the gradual change in colour easier to achieve.

I went for a green and orange theme because I thought those were rather Halloween-like colours.

The last picture is an indoors photo taken under lamp light. It was actually the first picture I took, so I hadn't cleaned up around the edges yet.

Pink Lemonade is a matte glitter polish consisting of yellow and pink glitter.

Flipping Out Hard is a neon matte glitter polish, consisting of yellow and blue glitter. It has more yellow than blue glitter when compared against the polish that started it all, Nail-Venturous Floam. Check out tomorrow's post to see a semi-comparison. :)

Walking Dead - Halloween Challenge #5: Zombies

The topic of the day is 'zombies', and in no universe are zombies easy on the eyes (sorry, zombies, but it's true). So I decided to pretty much try for a weird-looking, maybe even gross-looking, manicure.

Here's what I started with:

Nail Pattern Boldness' Madam Rose is a red and silvery-white matte glitter. With three thin coats, it could probably be opaque on its own. Nail Pattern Boldness really packs their glitter in their bottles! Orly In The Navy is a very dark, almost black, navy blue.

Then, I sponged on Missha SV03 - a gray creme - randomly over the lot. Alright, I'll admit, in my enthusiasm for this creepy subject, I was going for a zombie's gray patchy skin over rotting flesh. (At first, I was going to do tendons and bone as well, then I decided to leave it a little abstract.)

I added a little green to the gray for more of a rotting look. How does this look? I don't think I quite made it to icky zombie skin and flesh heights, but it did look a little gross in person. It definitely achieved a certain level of ugliness though!

Then I thought it would be interesting to try to make it something that I could actually wear out without getting bombarded by questions about my taste...

Glitter hides all flaws, right? Hmmm...not quite in this case, but close enough. This is the sparkly edition of zombies! Perhaps when Twilight vampires turn into zombies...? The glitter is Nyx's Enchanted Forest and it has all sorts of green holo hex suspended in a green jelly base. It's gorgeous, and I love how it looks like it's floating in that second picture above.

Ev's Birthday #4 - Jme presents... LA Splash, LA Girl, Cheeky, Nail Pattern Boldness, Aphrodite Lacquer

Get ready for crazy picspam! I have been so super spoilt for my birthday this year... I saw Jme again the other day and she had EVEN MORE presents for me. They'd arrived a bit later than she expected, but to me it's like, birthday extension?? Oooh yeah, bring it on~ =)

[Nail Pattern Boldness]

From nail pattern boldness, I got Flipping Out Hard and I Believe I Can Fly. Look how amazing they both are!!

Flipping Out Hard is in the same general ballpark as Nail-venturous Floam but the base is a bright fluoro yellow and it looks like an even amount of yellow and blue matte glitter in the mix (compared to more blue in Floam - swatched here). The glitter is super dense too! I reckon opaque in two coats~ =)

[Nail Pattern Boldness: I Believe I Can Fly]

I Believe I Can Fly is amazingly gorgeous. That mix of glitter together with the rich blue jelly base is utter genius! There's silver and pale blue squares, and smaller purple and red hexes (?). The combination gives amazing depth and is opaque in two coats. Can't wait to wear this as a full mani!

[Aphrodite Lacquer]

Jme also gave me two polishes from Aphrodite Lacquer - Don't Copy Me and.... Custom..? That's right, I GOT A CUSTOM POLISH ZOMGGGGG, AAAAHHHHH~!! *runs around the room flailing*

[Aphrodite Lacquer: Don't Copy Me]

Don't Copy Me is a shimmery white jelly with black squares and tiny hexes. Depth is amazing as you can tell! I'm actually wearing this right now! Two coats is pretty good, but as it's a white jelly, it's still a bit translucent. You can probably go for three coats if you want complete coverage. The black glitter tends to settle, but it's fine after a good shake, no real need to go fishing.

[Aphrodite Lacquer: Custom polish]

Custom is miiiinnneeee, alllll mineeee!!! What a gorgeous mix! There's white, magenta and black squares, and lots of tiny lavender hexes... but not just that... hidden in the mix are these masssive purple hexes... you can see one peeking out at the bottom of the bottle in that shot above. The polish is chock-full of glitter and there's no issues getting a bunch out, but to get the super large ones require a bit of fishing. Super gorgeous, though... The question is... what polish undies to wear underneath! Oh, decisions...
