Sea and Sands - Dong Dong Crystal Sand 04

As mentioned in my haul post, here's another one about polishes I brought back! I have posted swatches of a couple polishes I bought in Malaysia here, and next on my list is one with a funny name!

Dong Dong Crystal Sand! Displaying the utmost height in maturity, Ying and I were giggling to ourselves as we picked out our favourite colours. From the writing on the back of the plish, I believe this brand is from China. Astute deduction, Sherlock!

I really like the name Crystal Sand, and I suspect it must represent the collection, because they are all glittery foils which makes the name really apt. I kind of regret not getting more to be honest, but I was afraid to transport so many bottles in case they broke in transit. As Asian producers of nail polish are allergic to naming their polishes, this one is nicely numbered 04.

Dong Dong Crystal Sand 04 (AHAHAHAHA, I'm sorry, I can't type this with a straight face) is pretty despite its name. It consists of heaps of blue and silvery-blue microglitter. In the bottle, it looks a little more silvery-blue and glittery, but on the nails, it smooths out into a mid-blue glitter.

The polish dries a little rough so it needs a topcoat over it. The application was rather easy, and one semi-thick coat was enough for complete opacity. I had to give the bottle a good hard shake though before application. It was really easy to remove which is always an A+ for me.

I painted this on really fast and took pictures when it was still a little wet, so I don't really have many photos.   :(

I also bought the red version of this polish:

[Dong Dong Crystal Sand 21]
This red one is a gloss-eater. Gloss polish barely stays on this and gets sucked up by the glitter instead. So it's not as glossy-shiny.

It's not bumpy like the picture shows. That's just light catching on the glitter in odd ways. Like the blue one, this one is opaque at one coat. Like the blue one too, it looks more silvery-red in the bottle.

I'm quite pleased to have this one too, because I don't think I have a dense red glitter, so this is fun.

Just a note that with all polishes from unfamiliar brands, I always use a thick base coat just to be on the safe side.

So I can't resist sharing little silly stories about this. I tried to Google the brand, but all I got were a lot of sites trying to sell dildos to me. Then I tried to use Google Translate on it. Google suggests that Dong might mean East (which I know in Cantonese, though it's pronounced a little differently), but that Dong Dong might mean 'Stuff'. Seriously? Stuff? Oh dear... I think it must be a mistranslation, because surely no company could be so lazy as to name their brand Stuff...

...right?

  1. They are fabulous! I'm also going to jump on the childish bandwagon and admit to laughing at Dong Dong.

    1. Haha, I think the shopkeeper was giving us dirty looks while we giggled over the bottles and wiggled our eyebrows at each other. :P

    1. It's a pretty hard polish to source if you're not in Malaysia I think. I bought it from a place called Prangin Mall, in the state of Penang. I haven't seen it elsewhere, not even online either strangely enough! I do wonder who is the reseller for this odd brand.
