A French Twist - Revlon Peach Smoothie, Orly Au Champagne

Howdy! Ev made a comment that this is an unusually girly mani for me, which is quite true. I really like French manicures, but when I try to do my own, I can't just do a normal one. It's practically a compulsion to spice it up. So here we have it!

[Base: Revlon Peach Smoothie
Top: Orly Au Champagne]
This is quite easy to do. The base coat is Revlon Peach Smoothie, which I'm aware isn't exactly a French mani type of polish. But Peach Smoothie has these gold-ish microglitter which I can't seem to capture on photo, and it's very subtle while giving the mani a nice little zing. I used freehand to apply Orly Au Champagne on top, and voila, done!

Fools Gold - Laced Gold nail foil transfer, Essence Rose Glam

This is a kinda old transfer foil manicure, so apologies for the crappy photos. This is Laced Gold nail foil transfer over Essence French Glam in Rose Glam.

[Gold veins]
I was trying to go for a subtly fancy manicure, but I don't think it quite worked out how I imagined!

[Bottle to nail: Essence French Glam in Rose Glam (2 coats)]
I started with two layers of Essence French Glam in Rose Glam, a milky creme/jelly (crelly!). Although it's called Rose Glam, there's barely a hint of pinkness to it, mostly just a neutral cream shade.

[2 coats: Essence French Glam in Rose Glam]
The finish was a bit patchy unfortunately, but I figured, hey, I'm gonna slap on a transfer, let's see how we go...
[Base: Essence Rose Glam (2 coats); Foil transfer: Laced Gold]
Hmmmm... not really what I was going for! I think the areas between the gold are quite spacey so it doesn't translate well. Would definitely look better with a coloured base, I reckon! Oh well! That's an experiment for next time! ;)

Top Tips - Canmake #30

I went through a brief period of not liking strong colours on my nails but still wanting to play around with polish so here's a twist on the french manicure that I ended up using.

[Bottle to nail: Canmake #30 (2 coats)]
I picked up Canmake #30 while I was in Japan last year. This one is an aqua jelly base packed with iridescent glitters of various sizes, mostly shifting between shades of blue and gold.

[Tips: Canmake #30 (2 coats)]
I used two coats of glitter polish on the free edge of each nail before putting a generous layer of topcoat over the full nail to even things out! My nails look a bit yellow in these photos for some reason but they definitely were fine in real life! It was pretty interesting to have a more "subtle" manicure (in my books, anyways!).

On Fire - Sally Hansen Lava

Everyone has seen this gorgeous nail polish on the market and in swatches, but I couldn't resist putting up my photos anyway.

[2 Coats: Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Lava]
Obviously, this is Sally Hansen's Lava, from the Lustre Shine collection. I have so many multichromes and duochromes that I wasn't too sure I would get this too. I gave in anyway because I'm weak, but I have no regrets!

Lava is a duochrome foil, which makes for a much better finish than shimmers - mostly because I find duochrome shimmers to be streaky. Lava is a rose-pink to gold-orange duochrome. The colour shift on Lava is amazing and hard to miss. Any slight streaky-ness and the visible tips of my nails are due to the fast dry nail polish.

Super Base - LA Girl Matte Pink, Revlon Powder Puff

I was in the mood for something super bright the other day and pulled out this lovely fluoro pink from LA Girl.

[LA Girl Matte Pink over Revlon Powder Puff]
This is LA Girl Matte in Matte Pink - a gorgeous bright fluoro pink that dries to a plasticky matte finish.

[Bottle to nail: Revlon Matte Suede in Powder Puff]
Like most fluoros, this looks best over a white. I didn't want to go for a straight up white so I picked Revlon Matte Suede in Powder Puff, a white matte with a blue shimmer to it. Love this as a base for neon and lighter polish shades!

[2 coats: LA Girl Matte Pink over Revlon Powder Puff]
I then used two coats of LA Girl Matte Pink to get this awesome fluoro look. Here's what it looks like when the polish is still slightly wet (on the ring finger), compared to when it's dry (index and middle).

[2 coats: LA Girl Matte Pink over Revlon Powder Puff]
Rather than the super matte look, this one is more of a plastic/rubber type matte? Regardless, I loved it - super eye-catching indoors and even more blazingly pink outdoors!

Also, if you haven't already had a look, don't forget to check out my blogsale! Everything for cheap!

Winter Fuzz - Covergirl Midnight Magic, OPI Warm and Fozzie

I was super amused to see the post Jme put up yesterday featuring Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant in Midnight Magic, because that was exactly what I had just put on and photographed on my nails! I had picked this up a month or two ago half off and only now decided to use it. So I decided to edit these up and post them today as I had added a little extra to my mani. =)

[Staying warm this winter?]
A gradient of shiny foily goodness! After all, what can be better than one sparkly foil polish... but TWO sparkly foil polishes...

[Bottle to nail: Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant in Midnight Magic (2 coats)]
As Jme has mentioned, Midnight Magic is a blue foil polish but with an amazing mix of gold, green and pink microglitter. It also appears to have a somewhat duochrome effect at certain angles due to the pink microglitter. Excellent formula - this was two coats but could easily do with one thick one depending on nail length.

[2 coats: Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant in Midnight Magic]
A super gorgeous polish, but not only that... it's a dupe for Zoya Fei Fei and OPI On Her Majesty's Secret service! Check out this awesome swatch test featuring all three (Covergirl, Zoya and OPI).

[Base: Covergirl Midnight Magic (2 coats); Tips: OPI Warm and Fozzie]
Anywhooo, I was admiring the sparkly finish and the large foil particles in Midnight Magic when I realised it reminded me of the finishes in some OPIs I own. OPI Warm and Fozzie was just sitting on my desk so, oh happy days, I smacked some on a sponge and set about making a gradient!

[Base: Covergirl Midnight Magic (2 coats); Tips: OPI Warm and Fozzie]
OPI Warm and Fozzie is a foily bronze shade but look closer and there's particles in pink, gold to green, and bronze to gold duochrome! I've included the photo at an angle above to show you the bright gold visible!

Both polishes were an awesome match and due to the colours and particle size, it was super easy to get a gradient without mucking around with multiple sponge layers (this was just one layer).

[Base: Covergirl Midnight Magic (2 coats); Tips: OPI Warm and Fozzie;
Stamping: China Glaze Millenium]
Then I got bored today and stamped a snakeskin pattern (plate BM215) in a silver chrome (China Glaze Millenium) over the top of one nail. It looked a bit too stark just over the top so I lightly sponged the two base polishes over the top again for a more subtle effect. =)

I love playing around with polish, don't you!

Smokey Steel - Covergirl Midnight Magic

Hey ho! I was at Target looking for something and as usual, I couldn't help but stop by the make-up aisle of course. Lo and behold, a sale on all CoverGirl nail polish! At $2.95, it was hard to resist. There weren't any colours I particularly fancied, but the following did catch my eye.

[CoverGirl Midnight Magic]
At first, under poor lighting, I thought CoverGirl Midnight Magic was more of a mid-blue with gold glitter. As you can see, I was pretty wrong.

[CoverGirl Midnight Magic]
This is an odd duck to me. It's a blue foil, with almost greenish undertones, and it has gold, green and pink microglitter. At certain angles, the pink microglitter comes across more strongly and the nail polish looks like a bluey-lavender-gray colour instead.

All in all, it makes for an interesting, pretty foil and I rather like it. :)

AmaZing - Revlon PeachZing, MangoZing

Happy Long Weekend Monday, wooooo~! Seeing Jme's post on Revlon VioletZing last week reminded me that I had unposted Zing comparison photos taken a while ago. Like Jme, most of my old-school Revlons were found bin-diving - gotta love it!

[Bottle to nail: Revlon MangoZing (middle and ring); Index and pinky: Revlon PeachZing]
Today I've got photos of Revlon MangoZing in the bottle and on the nail, with some comparison to PeachZing. =) On my middle and ring fingers, I have MangoZing, with PeachZing on the index and pinky. You can immediately tell that MangoZing is a deeper shade, but they are both quite similar.

[Middle and ring: Revlon MangoZing (2 coats); Index and pinky: Revlon PeachZing (2 coats)]
MangoZing is a bright orange which deepens to vermillion with a slightly purplish tinge at the edges. Very interesting! PeachZing is a bit more subtle with gold fading to orange. Both had decent formulas with opacity reached in two coats.

[Middle and ring: Revlon MangoZing (2 coats); Index and pinky: Revlon PeachZing (2 coats)]
With these polishes, I'm never quite sure if it's a genuine duochrome effect or not. I noticed that with MangoZing, it's almost like the pooling of pigments deepens the shade on the sides of the nail. Either way, these are definitely of the oldy-goody variety!

Tea Rose - Revlon Violet Zing

Hello all! This features yet another oldie but goodie! :D

I found this in the randomest manner. I was waiting for my parents and I just wandered over to a big box of nail polishes, and this was sitting right at the top. Wow!

[Two coats: Revlon VioletZing]
This is Revlon VioletZing, which is a duochrome, changing from peach colour to pink. It's not super obvious, but it's definitely noticeable. You can see a little of the change in colour in the first photo, where it's peachy near the cuticles and pink nearer to the nail tips. In the second photo, the colour difference on each nail is noticeable.

For such an old polish, the quality is rather good. No streaking and it's easy to apply.

[Two coats: Revlon VioletZing]
Taken under bright sunlight and sharp shadows, the nail polish does look a little different.

Any of you have any Revlon Zings and willing to share your thoughts on? :D

Jaffa Goodness - Mode Euro Trip, Femme Fatale Cosmetics Incendius

We've just tipped over into winter but I'm sneaking in an autumn-y combination today!

[Bottle to nail: Femme Fatale Incendius over Mode Euro Trip]
This is Mode Euro Trip with a layer of Femme Fatale Cosmetics Incendius over the top.

[Bottle to nail: Femme Fatale Incendius over Mode Euro Trip]
Euro Trip is a gorgeous brown creme with heavy gold shimmer that looks slightly green-ish at certain angles. It applied well, reaching opacity in two coats.

[Base: Mode Euro Trip (2 coats); Glitter: Femme Fatale Cosmetics Incendius]
I always love the glitter mixes in Femme Fatale Cosmetics glitter polishes. The glitter mixes are always interesting combinations and Incendius is definitely a stunning one, combining orange, gold and a hint of navy blue.

[Base: Mode Euro Trip (2 coats); Glitter: Femme Fatale Cosmetics Incendius]
All the glitters laid flat in this polish and a layer of topcoat gave everything a smooth shiny finish!
